The original sculptural relief Silver Flight is proposed for the walls of the buildings located in a city with maritime heritage. The project was inspired by the waterfront sites and harmonizes with the spirit of the sea. The artwork evokes the rich history of harbor, where gulls are an integral part of the tableau. The mural is created from stainless steel, which is most practical for an outdoor sculpture. Moreover, steel, like water, reflects the naturally changing colors of the sky, sunlight, moonlight or streetlights. The seagulls in flight are individually attached to the metal fixtures or background panels that are anchored to the wall. The existing paneling that covers the wall can be used for the background. The protruding bird’s wings will move with the wind and create an illusion of flight. The shadows of the gulls dramatically intensify the effect. All this produces a truly unique meditative and memorable experience for the viewers. The visibility of the sculptural mural functions as a magnet and draw public attention to the building. The artwork enhances the wall without overpowering the original architectural façade. This project allows the general public to experience a work of art in situ, beautifies the neighborhood, attracts visitors and tourists to the area and preserves the maritime history of the city. The project was inspired by the waterfront sites and harmonizes with the spirit of the sea. The artwork evokes the rich history of harbor, where gulls are an integral part of the tableau. While seagulls are a natural part of the seascape, seaport and maritime, they are also a symbol of freedom, cooperation and resilience, which reflects the current spirit of contemporary society. |
