Phase 1 – Research and Development:
During this phase the materials suitable for mural fabrication were researched. The steel was tested for performance, strength and endurance to the environmental pollution and various atmospheric conditions. The different attachments options for the seagulls and mural were designed and possible coatings or treatment were addressed. For these purposes shop drawings and construction of working models were necessary for production of a final installation scheme of the mural. The technical information was finished by a structural engineer and presented for the approval to the authorities.
The project was endorsed through networking within the local community and public officials, as well as fund-raising has been completed at this stage. The scale model, sketches, working models and information materials were presented to the patrons to have a direct experience of the project.
Phase 2 –Design and Fabrication:
During this phase, once the design has been finalized and the permit received, the fabrication of the installation elements have been accomplished. The professional installation team has been secured. The necessary funding and finishing grants for the installation of the mural have been received.
Media packages were sent to local newspapers to insure media coverage of the opening ceremony.
Phase 3 – Installation at the Site:
During this phase the mural parts and all necessary equipment and machinery have been delivered to the site and professional team installed the frame on the wall and attached the panels and the birds.
Phase 4 - Opening ceremony of public art installation
During this final phase the lot in front of the building and the adjacent lot in the back were prepared for a neighborhood event. There were an opening ceremony, food, live music, etc. Local residents, government officials, local media representatives and community members were invited to attend. Any passer-bys, tourists and visitors were encouraged to participate.
