The project is situated in the very center of the city in the culturally diverse neighborhood. The work presented in contexts, where it might be experiences by local residents, workers, drivers, bikers and pedestrians as well as broad international audience - tourists.
My goal is to benefit local community through visual art exposure and to encourage presentation of public art in Den Haag, this ever growing city of international importance as a political, judicial, economical and cultural center of united European community.
The mural measures: 204.9cm x 188.8cm x 15cm, is created from brushed stainless steel, which is most practical for an outdoor sculpture. All 18 seagulls in flight are individually attached to the two metal background panels fixed to the frame that is anchored to the wall. The imagery of the mural reflects the maritime heritage of the city.
Steel, like water, reflects the naturally changing colors of the sky, sunlight, moonlight or streetlights. The protruding bird’s wings move with the wind and create an illusion of flight. The shadows of the gulls dramatically intensify the effect. All of this produce a truly unique meditative and memorable experience for the viewers.
